सदाशिवसमारंभां शङ्कराचार्यमध्यमाम् ।
अस्मदाचार्यपर्यन्तां वन्दे गुरुपरंपराम् ॥

[I salute the lineage of preceptors, commencing from the ever auspicious Lord Śiva, having Śrī Śaṁkara-bhagavatpāda in the middle and extending up to my own teacher.]

Advaita-tattva, the non-dual Truth, the realization of which leads men to liberation from the cycle of transmigratory existence and results in ever-lasting bliss, is the essential teaching of the Upaniṣads, the acme of the Vedas. And there are the Brahma-sūtras of Sage Bādarāyaṇa that come in handy for the resolution of any doubts that may arise in the minds of the seekers when analysing the knotty passages of the Upaniṣads. However, it is not given to even all those endowed with sharp intellects to easily discern, by themselves, the esoteric Tattva as expounded in the Upaniṣads or debated in the Sūtras.

It is with this in mind that the compassionate Bhagavān incarnated as Saṁkara Bhagavatpāda and wrote elaborate and exquisite commentaries on the Upaniṣads, the Brahma-sūtras and the Bhagavad-gitā apart from authoring various profound treatises on Advaita establishing that the non-dual philosophy alone is the quintessence of Vedānta. Īśvara’s torrential grace has flowed unabated on the ardent seekers in the form of the unbroken succession of Advaita-ācāryas and jīvanmuktas of great repute who followed the tradition of Bhagavatpāda and vouchsafed a huge wealth of advaitic-literature to the sādhakas in the form of sub-commentaries to the Preceptor’s bhāṣyas and of their own independent treatises.

Realising that the modern sādhaka’s knowledge of Sanskrit is limited and that this shortcoming could become a major stumbling block in his comprehending the teaching of the Upaniṣads, eminent scholars versed in Vedānta and other philosophical systems like Mīmāṁsa and Tarka have painstakingly translated and published the original scriptural texts and commentaries into English and vernacular languages in the last many decades. While translations are no doubt, helpful to a seeker not proficient in Sanskrit, they, however, can hardly substitute for the personal and traditional one-on-one teaching of the texts by expert preceptors. Blessed are they who are in the august association of ācārya-s skilled in the exposition of the Vedānta-śāstra.

The spiritual seekers of Chennai are fortunate to be the recipients of some special grace from Īśvara on this front too! Today, Chennai is witnessing the august presence of traditional Vedānta-paṇḍitas endowed with proficiency in Tarka, Mīmāṁsa and also Vyākaraṇa required for the accurate exposition of Vedanta. These venerable scholars regularly expound Advaita in assemblages of reputed scholars convened by various institutions, be they advaitic or non-advaitic, throughout the country. Many are the titles, awards and honours that have been conferred on them. Out of their compassion, these scholars have been teaching interested spiritual seekers of Chennai, the commentaries of Bhagavatpāda on the Upaniṣads, the Gītā and the Brahma-sūtras and also independent treatises of Bhagavatpāda and of later writers in Tamil language for the past several years. It is a wonder that even a complex text like the Advaita-siddhi looks unbelievably simple in their classes.

With an objective to share the bliss of listening to the wonderful classes of these mahātmas with sādhakas living all over the globe, we approached the revered teachers and obtained their permission for recording the classes and making them available on-line in a website. They compassionately acquiesced to our proposal and the happy result is this website, Advaita-Vedanta.Info. Initially, this site would host the classes of Dr. Mani Dravid Sastrigal of Chennai who is one of the top-notch scholars of Advaita-vedānta and Mīmāṁsa in India. (More about him in "Profiles")

It is fervently hoped that this site would be uniquely beneficial to the seekers of liberation to listen to, in a traditional way, the philosophy of the Upaniṣads compassionately bestowed upon humanity by Bhagavatpāda and the ācārya-paramaparā that followed Him. Thus, we are confident that even the less fortunate seekers of the present times who have no personal access to the erudite scholars versed in traditionally expounding the śāstras would, in particular, be benefited by this site. Of course, for the present, the advantage is going to be confined to the Tamil-knowing community alone.

The section “Profiles” in this website contains brief bio-data of the esteemed scholars. "Lectures" contains the audio files of the classes conducted by the revered teachers which have been grouped under various subtitles. "Texts" displays the original scriptural texts in PDF form. "Download" displays a format for the use of the visitors to the site desirous of downloading the audio-files and texts. "Contact" has an e-mail form for conveying suggestions or posing doubts to the revered teachers on the subjects taught.

We dedicate this humble effort at the Lotus Feet of Bhagavatpāda, the divine incarnation of Lord Paramaśiva.
